The Leeuwin was built in Whiteinch, Scotland,  in 1877 and originally named the SS Julia Percy, later renamed in 1906 after being acquired by Melbourne S. S. Co.. She was an iron screw passenger steamer, 68 metres in length and 580 ton.

She did the Australian coastal run for some time until converted into a hulk in 1910, but as a result of damage caused when she was driven against the jetty at Dongara, WA during a gale she was dismantled and scuttled on 28 December 1934 near the main shipping channel in Bass Strait.

As the wreck is ‘on the shipping leads’ it is always subject to shipping.
