The Spider Crabs are still under the Blairgowrie Pier, surprising considering they were there a month ago. The rays are enjoying the winter activities in their own way by feasting on them. In winter each year the Spider Crabs of Port Phillip Bay gather together for their annual molt. It takes a few days for a crab to extract itself from the outer shell. During this time they are quite vulnerable to predators such as rays.

There can be many thousands stacked up to 1.5 metres high, it is a sight the behold.
