This course is designed to teach certified divers how to safely utilise side-mounted primary cylinders as an alternative to the traditional back-mounted configuration. This course can be combined with other technical courses such as: Decompression Procedures, Extended Range, Trimix, Advanced Trimix and Advanced Wreck.
This course provides divers with the necessary skills to further their diving with a redundant air supply as standard practice for all their dives in the future. Also often offered is to practice carrying, attaching and detaching a stage bottle that is also side mounted. This gives the diver an excellent opportunity to try different configurations depending on the dives they are going to undertake in the future.
Some advantages of sidemount diving:
- Streamlined in the water
- Trim is easier and more natural as there is no weight on your back and the tanks following your body
- Valves and gauges are easy to find and use
- Shallower profile lends itself very well to cave and wreck diving
- Finding tanks for twins in remote areas is much easier
- …..
The course is lots of fun as the diver becomes more familiar with the equipment and then more skills are attempted and techniques honed.
